EDB identifies new strategic direction of funding (Exclusive)

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has identified the information technologies sector as one of the priority areas of funding in its new strategy for 2018-2022, the press service of the EDB told Trend Aug. 13.

"Development of information technologies is a strategically important direction of economic development for all the EDB countries. Accordingly, the information technologies, including the creation of IT-infrastructures, software and platform development, in particular by using the blockchain technology, have been marked as a separate strategic direction of investment in the new strategy of the bank."

The EDB is an international financial organization established by Russia and Kazakhstan in January 2006 to promote the development of the market economy in the member states, their sustainable economic growth and the expansion of mutual trade and economic relations. The authorized capital of the EDB is $7 billion.

The member states of the bank are Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Armenia and Tajikistan.

The bank gives priority to the financing of projects on development of energy, transport and infrastructure sectors. As of August 1, 2018, projects in these sectors accounted for more than 50 percent of the current investment portfolio.
