Uzbekistan, China to expand co-op in textile industry

Uzbekistan and China will expand cooperation in the textile, apparel and knit wear industries, as well as increase the production and supply of finished textile products to the Chinese market, the Uztekstilprom association said in a message.

The message comes following the Uzbek-Chinese business forum on cooperation in the textile industry held in Tashkent with the participation of representatives of the two countries' textile industry on Aug. 15.

The forum was organized by the association "Uztekstilprom" jointly with the Chinese National Council for Textiles and Clothing, with the participation of the leadership of the Uzbek State Committe for Investments, UzTrade JSC, the ministries of foreign trade and economy of Uzbekistan.

The Chinese delegation was represented by 33 representatives of China's associations and textile companies, in particular representatives of the Subcommittee on the Textile Industry, Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China National Clothing Association, China Nonwovens & Industrial Textiles Association (CNITA) and 19 large companies from Shanghai, Qingdao, Nanyang Province and others.

During the visit to Uzbekistan on August 10-15 the delegation got acquainted with the investment potential of Bukhara, Qashqadaryo, Samarkand and Sirdaryo regions, visited enterprises with the participation of Chinese investments - LT International and Peng Sheng industrial zone.

Following the results of 1H2018, China took the second place in the list of the main foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan (with a slight difference from Russia). The trade turnover between the countries amounted to $2.81 billion, which is 15.9 percent of the total commodity turnover of Uzbekistan.

As of August 1, China is the third country by the number of new joint ventures in Uzbekistan. According to the results of the first seven months of 2018, 137 enterprises were established with Chinese capital in Uzbekistan.
