Cargo transportation up in Azerbaijan

The transport sector of Azerbaijan transported 127.6 million tons of cargo in January-July 2018, which is 1.2 percent more than in the same period of 2017, the State Statistics Committee said in a statement.

Of the total volume of goods transported in January-July, 81.3 percent fell on the private sector. 63.5 percent of all goods were transported by road, 26.3 percent - by pipeline, 6.2 percent - by rail, 3.9 percent - by sea and 0.1 percent - by air.

Some 1.1 billion people were carried by passenger transport for the first seven months of the current year, which is 1.4 percent more than in 2017. The majority (87.5 percent) of the passengers were transported by road, 12.3 percent - by metro, and the remainder - by other modes of transport.

Some 7.9 million tons of cargo were carried by railway transport, which is 4.3 percent less than in January-July 2017.

On average, the number of loaded railway cars amounted to 340, unloaded - 399 per day. The average daily load of railcars in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 12,700 tons, in the western direction – 5,100 tons, in the southern direction – 0,900 tons.

Some 4.98 million tons of cargo were transported by sea during the reporting period, which is 8 percent more than in January-July 2017. Some 53.5 percent of the transported cargo fell on oil cargo. The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Azerbaijan in January-July amounted to 5.77 million tons.

Some 81.1 million tons of cargo were transported by road transport during the reporting period, which exceeds the same figure in 2017 by 2.8 percent.

The volume of passenger transportations by road transport for this period amounted to 963.1 million people (an increase of 1.4 percent compared to January-July 2017). Some 96 percent of the passengers were transported by buses, four percent-by motor vehicles.

The volume of passenger traffic by metro amounted to 134.9 million people, an increase of 1.4 percent compared to the same period in 2017.

Some 1.37 million passengers were transported by air in the first seven months of the current year, which is 6.3 percent more than in January-July 2017. 0.2 percent of transportations by this mode of transport fell on the private sector. Cargo transportation by air transport increased by 30 percent and amounted to 118,400 tons during one year.
