By A. Shirazi - Trend:

Omid Shahidinia, managing director of Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Economic Zone in Khuzestan Province, said a new corridor will be created to streamline the export of petrochemical products from the south.

“Export of petrochemical products will be facilitated by launching an export corridor in [Mahshahr] Special Petrochemical Economic Zone,” Shahidinia said, Shana news agency reported on Aug. 16.

He added that the corridor will come on stream in the next few months as talks with relevant authorities and bodies for its launch are underway.

“One of the main advantages of the new corridor is that it would help cut the red tape for exporters and investors,” the official said.

Shahidinia also said the economic zone will use the country’s railway system in the future to export petrochemical products to Turkey and Iraq.

Iran’s petrochemical output capacity currently stands at over 60 million tons. Tehran hopes to attract billions of dollars to more than double that capacity by 2022, the end of its Sixth Five-Year Economic Development Plan.
