During an Uzbek-Tajik business forum in Tashkent city, the sides signed a total of 11 agreements worth $103.3 million, the press service of the Uzbek Ministry for Foreign Trade said in a statement Aug. 17.

The Uzbek side was represented by Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Nodir Otajonov, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Adham Ikramov, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Sahib Saifnazarov.

From the Tajik side, the forum was attended by Chairman of the State Committee for Investments and State Property Management Farrukh Hamralizoda and Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sharif Said.

The sides noted that although the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan for the first half of the year increased by 35 percent and amounted to $160 million, the trade, economic and investment cooperation between the countries doesn’t yet correspond to the available potential.

Tajik and Uzbek presidents intend to increase bilateral trade to $500 million by 2020 by expanding mutual supplies of demanded products. In order to achieve this indicator, the Uzbek side calls on the Tajik companies to use the mechanism of financing trade operations worth up to $100 million offered by the Uzbek banks.

An exhibition of industrial products “Made in Tajikistan” will be held as part of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Uzbekistan on August 17-18.
