Azerbaijan sees fall in number of unemployed

As of August 1, 2018, 36,100 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 37.1 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

Some 36,600 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan as of July 1, 2018, while 38,000 unemployed since early 2018. The average monthly unemployment benefit was 273.9 manats in July.

According to the report, as of early August 2018, the economically active population of Azerbaijan was nearly 5,120.8 million people.

As of July 1, 2018, 1,542.6 million people accounted for hired workers, including 885,700 people - in the public sector and 660,500 people - in private sector.

Some 33,700 people accounted for those working in the oil sector, while over 1.5 million people - in the non-oil sector.

Among hired workers 23.8 percent accounted for those working in the production spheres, including 7.2 percent in construction, 6.8 percent in processing industry, 3.3 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.2 percent - in the mining industry, 2.6 percent - water supply, waste recycling, 1.7 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam.

Around 21.4 percent account for the hired workers involved in education, 18.8 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.5 percent - medical and social services, 7 percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.6 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.5 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.4 percent – professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.8 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.6 percent - communication and information, 1.6 percent - financial and insurance activities, 1.5 percent – tourist accommodation and catering, 1.5 percent - real estate transactions, and 1 percent - other areas.
