The measures taken to curb the growth of prices for socially important food products in the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan have led to prices decrease of a number of products, Kazakh media quoted the First Deputy Governor of the region Gauez Nurmukhambetov as saying.

Thus, for 1H2018, out of 19 of socially important food products, the price decrease has been observed for flour – by 4.2 percent, buckwheat – by 15.1 percent, chicken meat – by 4.3 percent, cottage cheese (curd) – by 7 percent, onions – by 2.1 percent, eggs – by 28.5 percent.

"The increase in prices by more than 5 percent since the beginning of the year has been observed for carrots – by 36.7 percent, cabbage – by 16.4 percent and sugar – by 17.9 percent. Prices for carrots and cabbage have risen due to influence of the seasonal factor, the delivery of more expensive products from the southern regions of the country. Sugar is not produced in the region, its real value has increased due to the increase in prices introduced by its supplier "Central Asian Sugar Corporation" LLP based in Almaty", Nurmukhambetov said.

The administrations of cities and districts have arranged for signing of 701 memoranda, 292 contracts between suppliers and retailers on the minimum trade markup for agricultural products.

However, despite the decline in prices for a number of products, not all districts properly conduct the work for curbing the prices, Nurmukhambetov noted.

In Nauyrzym district, the prices for six titles of food products are above average for the region, in Mendykary district the prices for four types of food products are above the average regional level, the same situation is observed in Rudniy district, he said.

The local commodity producers have been allocated 208 stalls in the markets to trade their own products, bypassing intermediaries.

The Governor of the region Archimed Mukhambetov has urged all districts and cities to keep under control the issue of compliance with the minimum trade markup which shouldn't exceed 10 percent.

"It is necessary to update memoranda with grocery stores, supermarkets, retail outlets on a markup to the cost of goods not exceeding 10 percent. Now the prices for food products in our region are lower by one percent than the prices in the rest of the country. This is a good indicator," the governor of the region said.
