Trade turnover between Azerbaijan, Georgia grows

In January-July 2018, Azerbaijan increased the import of goods from Georgia by 2.4 times as compared to the same period of 2017, up to $251.82 million, according to a report of the Georgian National Statistical Service.

Azerbaijan's share in Georgian exports was 13.5 percent (7.3 percent in January-July 2017). Azerbaijan took the first place among the countries importing Georgian products in the first seven months of 2018.

Azerbaijan mainly imported cars, tobacco products, medicines, cattle and other products.

In the first seven months of 2018, Georgia's second largest portion of goods were exported to Russia - $240.84 million, with a specific weight of 12.9 percent. Turkey is ranked third with $172.61 million and a specific weight of 9.2 percent.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan exported goods to Georgia worth $332.24 million, which is 16.1 percent more than in January-July 2017. Azerbaijan holds fourth place among the main exporters to Georgia with a share of 6.4 percent (6.8 percent in the same period of 2017).

Georgia mainly imports from Azerbaijan gas, electricity, oil, cement and other goods.

The leader in exports to Georgia is Turkey - $828.16 million (16 percent), while Russia holds the second position - $520.04 million (10 percent). China is third with $505.54 million (9.8 percent).

According to the report, Georgia's trade with Azerbaijan amounted to $584.06 million in the first seven months of 2018, which is 48.9 percent more than the same period of 2018.

The share of trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Georgia makes 8.3 percent in the total volume of foreign trade operations of this country. Thus, Azerbaijan took the third place in the list of the main trade partners of Georgia.
