The Ukrainian pharmaceutical enterprise Farmak will build a new pharmaceutical plant in Uzbekistan, Uzbek media reported.

The corresponding agreement has been achieved between Chairman of the Board of Farmak Filya Zhebrovskaya and Uzbek Ambassador to Ukraine Alisher Abdualiyev.

The Ukrainian company is going to create a modern plant for pharmaceutical products with high added value on the territory of the pharmaceutical industrial zone in the Tashkent region. The company is expected to attract direct investments worth of $10 million.

The Uzbek ambassador reminded that the agreement was preceded by a series of meetings with the visit to the production facilities of Farmak, as well as by the decision of Uzbek President Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on establishing pharmaceutical industrial zones in six regions of Uzbekistan, where all enterprises will be exempted from payment of taxes for various terms.

“The new joint venture with Farmak will expand the range of medicines that are produced in Uzbekistan, will reduce dependence on imported production and create a basis for further expansion of the pharmaceutical cluster,” Abdualiyev underlined.

Farmak is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Ukraine, founded in 1925. Its share in the Ukrainian market of medicines reaches 19 percent. It produces over 200 types of products, exporting them to the EU, CIS countries, including Uzbekistan.

Currently, there are 72 Uzbek-Ukrainian enterprises in Uzbekistan, including five enterprises with fully Ukrainian capital. In 1H2018, trade between Uzbekistan and Ukraine increased by 60 percent and amounted to $206 million.
