The first contactless payment cards in Uzbekistan should be issued by Jan. 1, 2020, Uzbek media reported on Sept. 21 referring to the presidential decree.
The Central Bank and commercial banks of Uzbekistan were instructed to install bank terminals throughout the country that will be able to accept cash-free payments by March 1, 2020. At the same time, a cash-free payment system using mobile phones and other devices should be launched.
By Aug. 1, 2019, a standardized and universal payment system utilizing QR codes should be developed, and by Feb. 1, 2020 – a virtual card service, tied to the main card in mobile applications of banks and payment systems.
