Luxembourg-based Cargolux is interested in expanding to Uzbekistan and carrying out commercial flights through the Navoi International Intermodal Logistics Center (IILC), Vugar Nasibov, CIS and Georgia Regional Director of the Cargolux Airlines International S.A., told Trend on Sept. 25.

“Cargolux is constantly looking for new markets and new opportunities. This also includes Uzbekistan,” Nasibov said.

He, however, noted that there are no precise plans at this stage and refrained from giving further details.

“Our company carries out regular cargo flights around the world, and we are very interested in the Central Asian region. We are willing to expand our presence in the Uzbek market, including establishing transportation of goods through the Navoi international airport, where the International Intermodal Logistics Center was established, since we believe that it is ideally located for carrying out transportation between Europe and Asia," the regional director of Cargolux earlier said.

Nasibov earlier expressed interest towards Uzbekistan during the tripartite negotiations in Tashkent with Director General of Uzbekistan Airways Bakhtiyor Khakimov and Head of the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Luxembourg Charles Klein.

During the meeting, the sides also considered issues related to land cargo handling, service tariffs, provision of discounts, etc.

Cargolux Airlines International S.A. is a cargo airline based in Luxembourg. It is one of the largest European transport companies performing regular cargo transportation around the world.

The Navoi IILC has been created jointly by Uzbekistan Airways and Korean Air at the Navoi International Airport and is currently one of the largest and most technologically advanced air cargo complexes of the region. The total area of the complex is 16,000 square meters.
