Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 26

Trend:

Uzbekistan and China plan to sign a memorandum of cooperation in the field of railway transport, Uzbek media reported.

The parties discussed the parameters of the document during the recent visit of the Chinese delegation to Tashkent. The document is planned to envisage the details of future joint projects, as well as issues of cargo transportation.

The parties are already actively cooperating on a number of investment projects in the railway sector.

For example, Uzbekistan actively buys electric locomotives in China specially created for Uzbek local conditions. In addition, China Railway Tunnel Group Co., Ltd built the longest railway tunnel in Central Asia on the Angren-Pap railway line.

Another promising initiative includes construction of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway. The new railway will provide an opportunity to transport goods from China through Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to the countries of Eastern Europe and the Middle East. It will become one of the shortest routes for the transportation of Chinese goods to the EU.

In accordance with the preliminary parameters of the project, the reduction of the route from East Asia to the countries of the Middle East and Southern Europe will be about 900 kilometers, and the travel time will decrease by 7-8 days.

In addition, the construction will ensure development of transport infrastructure of the Central Asian countries, provide them with convenient access to the ports of the Persian Gulf and the Pacific, and will stimulate the development and use of natural resources of the countries of the region.
