Iran exempts basic goods from import tax payments

Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade has exempted some of the basic goods from import tax payments.

Those goods are wheat, rice, barley, corn, soybean, legumes, lentils, peas, beans and leeks, various types of raw oil, red meat, light and heavy livestock, eggs, oilseeds, butter, paper, typewriter, newspaper, rubber, and all kinds of human and animal medicines, Mehr news agency reported.

Previously, the import tax for those goods stood at 4 percent of the customs value.

The Islamic Republic imported $18.89 billion worth of commodities during first five months of the current fiscal year (March 20- Aug. 22), which is 9.66 percent less year-on-year.

Iran imported 13.96 million tons of goods in the same span of time, according to a report released by the country’s Customs Administration.

The volume of Iran’s imports registered a fall by 6 percent compared to the same period of the preceding year.

Car parts, worth $882 million, topped the list of Iran's imported goods during the 5-month period.

Rice (worth $863 million), corn fodder (worth $814 million), soybean meal ($595 million), coal electrode for furnaces worth $246 million were the other goods mainly imported to the Islamic Republic in the period.

China was the main exporter of goods to Iran in the mentioned period. Iran imported $4.838 billion worth of goods from its traditional trade partner in the last five months.
