The Spanish Ambassador to Iran, Eduardo López Busquets, said Madrid is seeking to invest in Iran’s central province of Yazd in the sectors of tourism and industry.

“We are making all-out efforts to prepare the ground for more investment in Yazd,” López Busquets said in Tehran on Sept. 26 in a meeting with provincial officials of Yazd province.

To that end, I will assign one of our officials to travel to Yazd to boost mutual trade tie and pave the way for joint economic meetings, he added.

“The province has great potential for tourism and industry,” the envoy said.

We have started talks with businessmen and manufacturers in Yazd to purchase ceramics and crude steel, López Busquets said.

Provincial officials, for their part, said the province is producing 50 percent of the country’s iron core.

“17 percent and 50 percent of Iran’s steel and ceramics are also produced in Yazd, respectively,” they noted.

Iran traded $625.30 million worth of non-oil goods with Spain in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2018), marking a 5.36-percent rise compared to the year before, making the European nation Iran’s 26th biggest trading partner.

Exports mainly included marble, travertine, alabaster and saffron.
