Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will establish a joint venture, which will be engaged in railway container transportation to China, Uzbek media reported.

The appropriate arrangements have been achieved during the visit of the Kazakh delegation to Tashkent. The enterprise will be established by the railway agencies of the two countries.

The countries also agreed to extend the current tariff preferences for railway cargo transportation in 2019, as well as to open representative offices of the Uzbekistan Railways in Astana and Aktau.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan and China plan to sign a memorandum on cooperation in the railway transport sphere, which outlines parameters of joint projects and tariff policy.

The total length of railways in Uzbekistan exceeds 7,000 kilometers. The share of railway transportation in the total volume of freight turnover is 52 percent.

In recent years, 44 freight electric locomotives, 15 high-speed passenger electric locomotives and 10 passenger diesel locomotives have been purchased from China and Russia.
