State Customs Committee talks imports of electric vehicles in Azerbaijan (Exclusive)

The import customs duties on the import of electric vehicles to Azerbaijan are determined at an ad valorem rate (the rate of customs duty charged as a percentage of the value of the dutiable goods) and amount to 15 percent, the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan told Trend October 2.

Thus, the committee stated that the total rate of the customs duties reach 36 percent of cost of the car, taking into account the VAT and expenses on customs clearance.

At the end of 2017, 88 electric vehicles were imported to Azerbaijan. In January-September 2018, 38 electric vehicles were imported to Azerbaijan.

The State Customs Committee noted that when importing cars with a fuel engine, the cost is calculated by a specific rate depending on the engine power.

Beginning from January 1, 2018, the new customs duties on the import of cars have been introduced in Azerbaijan. According to the new tariffs, the rate of customs duty for import of new cars with an engine capacity of 1500 cubic centimeters and above will be $ 0.7 per cubic centimeter, for used cars with the same engine capacity - $ 1.2 per cubic centimeter.

Previously, the rate of customs duty on the importation of new cars with an engine capacity of 1500 cubic centimeters or more was $ 0.4, and for used cars - $ 0.7. For new and used cars with an engine capacity less than 1500 cubic centimeters, the import customs duty remained the same - at the level of $0.4 and $0.7, respectively.
