Trend:

Around $80 million worth of seafood products were exported in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21), Hassan Salehi, the head of Iran Fisheries Organization said.

“Since the start of the year, 80 million worth of seafood products have been exported,” Salehi said on Wednesday, IRIB news agency reported on October 3.

The figure is expected to reach $580 million by the year-end, he added.

The main export destinations for Iranian seafood over the period included Oman, the UAE, Lebanon, Vietnam, Germany, Italy, France and Spain.

“Currently, hundreds of cage fish farming projects have been launched that could produce 30,000 tons of fish,” the official said.

Production of cages for fish farming accounts for only 10 percent of production costs and Iran is currently in the process of indigenizing the technology for making these cages.
