Ashgabat, Minsk discuss prospects for co-op in field of communications

The Minister of Communications and Informatization of Belarus Konstantin Shulgan met in Ashgabat with Minister of Communications of Turkmenistan Bairamgeldi Ovezov, the Belarusian Embassy to Ashgabat said in a statement.

The parties discussed topical issues of interaction between the two countries in the field of communications, outlining the promising areas.

Earlier it was reported that the representatives of the Republican Production Unitary Enterprise “Precision Electromechanics Plant” (Belarus) have discussed the issues of cooperation in the field of satellite broadcasting with the Ministry of Communications of Turkmenistan.

The "Precision Electromechanics Plant" provides technical support to the national satellite communication system based on BELINTERSAT-1 satellite.

During the discussions, the directions of cooperation in the field of functioning of the satellite communication system and a number of other promising projects aimed at expanding the range of telecommunications services were outlined, the message says.

The launch of the first Turkmen satellite TurkmenAlem 52°E took place on April 28, 2015 from Cape Canaveral (the state of Florida, USA). The satellite is equipped with three antennas covering dozens of countries in Europe and Asia, as well as the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.

The satellite has 38 active communication channels – transponders. Of these, 26 are used by Turkmenistan, the remaining 12 have been granted on the long-term lease to Space Systems International-Monaco S. A. M. company.
