By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

Inflation in 2019 in Kazakhstan will decline more slowly than the National Bank expected, the Bank’s Chairman Daniyar Akishev said at a government meeting, according to Kazinform.

"Inflation in January-September 2018 amounted to 3.3 percent, which is lower than in the same period last year. Annual inflation in September dropped to 6.1 percent compared to 7.1 percent at the end of the previous year," he said.

Akishev added that according to the estimates of the National Bank, inflation will remain in the target range of 5 to 7 percent.

The National Bank Chairman noted that this is due to the growing uncertainty of inflation expectations caused by both external and internal factors.

"According to the results of the population survey in September, the quantitative estimate of the inflation expected for the year ahead is 6.4 percent compared to 5.6 percent in July. Inflation expectations are still volatile in the short term, despite a downward trend in the long term," Akishev said.

He added that in order to increase the control over inflation, it is already necessary to take measures to preserve it in the target corridor of 2019.
