Kazakhstan names companies to be put up for IPO

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, during a meeting with Finnish business representatives, named the Kazakh companies that will be put up for IPO (initial public offering) in the coming years, Kazakh media reported.

"Large-scale privatization is carried out in Kazakhstan. Assets of mining, metallurgical, oil and gas, energy, transport and other enterprises are being put up for sale," the president said. "In the coming years, we plan to put up for IPO such large national companies as Kazakhtelecom, KazAtomProm, Air Astana, KazMunaiGas, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, Kazpost and others."

Nazarbayev added that today the demand for these transactions from foreign investors is being studied.

"Undoubtedly, the potential of Finnish investors is important for us," he noted.

Kazakh president arrived to Finland on an official visit on Oct. 16. During the visit, a memorandum of cooperation in the field of mechanical engineering was signed between the Union of Machine Builders of Kazakhstan and the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries.
