Over the past two years, potato production in Azerbaijan has increased by more than 10 percent, Director of the Agricultural Research Center at Azerbaijan’s Agriculture Ministry Parviz Hajiyev told Trend Oct. 18.
He said that by the end of this year, there will also be an increase in the production of potatoes.
“For example, in 2015 this figure was 830,000 tons, in 2016 - 900,000 tons, and in 2017 – 920,000 tons of potatoes,” he said. “At the same time, potato consumption in 2015 amounted to 680,000 tons, in 2016 - 720,000 tons and in 2017 - 739,000 tons.”
Hajiyev noted that Azerbaijan is ahead of many post-Soviet countries, producing about one million tons of potatoes.
In January-September 2018, potato production amounted to 852,800 tons in Azerbaijan, according to the country’s State Statistics Committee. The potato productivity per hectare is 148 centners.
