The total area of sown fields in Kazakhstan’s Turkistan region reached 807,400 hectares, acting head of the region’s agriculture department Nurbek Badyrakov said at a press conference.

Compared to last year, this figure increased by 9,000 hectares. The region has achieved such a success thanks to the implementation of the state program of agro-industrial complex development for 2017-2021, Badyrakov noted.

He said that the agricultural sector accounts for 10-12 percent of the production in Turkistan region.

"This year, the acreage of oilseeds increased by 23,000 hectares and amounted to 227,000 hectares, the acreage of vegetables, potatoes and melons increased by 7,500 hectares, amounting to 114,000 hectares," Badyrakov noted.

It is worth noting that this year, despite the drought, 405,000 tons of grain crops were harvested in the Turkistan region. Currently, the harvesting of grain crops, except rice, is fully completed.

In addition, record figure was achieved in the harvest of vegetables, potatoes and melons in Turkistan – 2.8 million tons. Of these, about 500,000 tons were exported to Russia, Belarus, Latvia and Germany, and more than 1 million tons were sent to other regions of Kazakhstan.
