Cargo transportation up in Azerbaijan

Some 169.8 million tons of cargo got transported in Azerbaijan in January-September 2018, which is 1.3 percent more than in the same period of 2017, the State Statistics Committee said in a statement.

Of the total volume of goods transported in January-September, 82.2 percent fell on the private sector. Some 64.9 percent of all goods were transported by road, 25.3 percent - by pipeline, 6.1 percent - by rail, 3.6 percent - by sea and 0.1 percent - by air.

Some 1.5 billion people were carried by passenger transport for the first nine months of the current year, which is 1.3 percent more than in 2017. The majority (88.2 percent) of the passengers were transported by road, 11.6 percent - by metro, and the remainder - by other types of transport.

Some 10.3 million tons of cargo were carried by railway transport, which is 2.3 percent less than in January-September 2017.

On average, the number of loaded railway cars amounted to 341, unloaded - 410 per day. The average daily load of railcars in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 12,700 tons, in the western direction – 5,400 tons, in the southern direction – 800 tons.

Some 6.18 million tons of cargo were transported by sea during the reporting period, which is 3.6 percent more than in January-September 2017. Some 54.7 percent of the transported cargo fell on oil cargo. The volume of cargo handled in the ports of Azerbaijan in January-September amounted to 7.34 million tons.

Some 110.2 million tons of cargo were transported by road during the reporting period, which exceeds the same figure in 2017 by 2.8 percent.

The volume of passenger transportation by road transport for this period amounted to 1.3 billion people (an increase of 1.3 percent compared to January-September 2017). Some 96.1 percent of the passengers were transported by buses, 3.9 percent - by motor vehicles.

The volume of passenger traffic by metro amounted to 168.7 million people, an increase of 1.2 percent compared to the same period in 2017.

Some 1.9 million passengers were transported by air in the first nine months of the current year, which is 3.5 percent more than in January-September 2017. 0.1 percent of transportation by this mode of transport fell on the private sector. Cargo transportation by air transport increased by 24.3 percent and amounted to 150,000 tons during one year.
