As of October 1, 2018, 34,800 people were officially registered as unemployed (5.4 percent decrease for a year) in Azerbaijan, including 37.4 percent women, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.
Some 35,400 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan as of September 1, 2018, while 38,000 unemployed in early 2018. The average monthly unemployment benefit was 210.6 manats in September.

According to the report, as of early October 2018, the economically active population of Azerbaijan was nearly 5,137.5 million people.
As of September 1, 2018, 1,540.3 million people accounted for hired workers, including 880,400 people - in the public sector and 659,900 people - in private sector.
Some 33,800 people accounted for those working in the oil sector, while over 1.5 million people - in the non-oil sector.
Among hired workers 23.6 percent accounted for those working in the production spheres, including 7.1 percent in construction, 6.8 percent in processing industry, 3.2 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 2.2 percent - in the mining industry, 2.6 percent - water supply, waste recycling, 1.7 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam.
Around 21.3 percent account for the hired workers involved in education, 18.9 percent - trade, repair of vehicles, 8.5 percent - medical and social services, seven percent in state governance and defense, social maintenance, 4.6 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.5 percent - recreation, entertainment and arts, 3.4 percent – professional, scientific and technical activities, 1.9 percent - administrative and additional services, 1.6 percent - communication and information, 1.6 percent - financial and insurance activities, 1.5 percent – tourist accommodation and catering, 1.5 percent - real estate transactions, and 1.1 percent - other areas.
