The volume of honey production in Azerbaijan is projected at over 4,000 tons in 2019, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association Badraddin Hasratov told Trend.
He noted that in January-September 2018, 3,000 tons of honey were produced in the country.
Speaking about Azerbaijan's honey exports Hasratov noted that a total of 50 tons of honey are planned to be shipped abroad in 2019, while 20 tons of honey have been exported in 2018. In particular, eight tons of Azerbaijani honey were delivered to Japan.
In the future, Azerbaijani producers plan to supply 5.5 tons of honey to Arab countries. As a test, about 450 kilograms of honey are planned to be sent to England and 400 kilograms to Qatar.
"If in these markets there is a great demand for our honey, then we plan to establish permanent exports to these countries," Hasratov added.
Azerbaijan's honey production in 2018 is expected to be just over 3,000 tons.
In accordance with the decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated March 5, 2018, in order to stimulate the development of beekeeping in the country, support small businesses and provide employment in rural areas to individuals and legal entities involved in beekeeping, a subsidy worth 10 manats per year for each bee family (beehive) will be paid during five years, including this year as well.
