Iran’s Bukan district harvests 195,000 tons of sugar beet

This Iranian year (started March 21, 2018) 195,000 tons of sugar beet have been harvested in Bukan district of Iran’s West Azerbaijan province, Eskandar Abdi, director of the agricultural department of the Bukan district, said in an interview with IRNA.

He said that so far, 85 percent of sown area has been harvested and sugar beet is being transported to sugar factories throughout the province.

The main part of the products was shipped to plants in Urmia, Miandoab and Nagada districts, he noted. This year, 1 kilogram sugar beet was sold at 31,200 rials (about $0.74), he added.

More than 230,000 tons of crops are expected to be harvested from 2,400 hectares of sugar beet planted this year in the district, he said.

He added that last year, 3,200 hectares were allocated for planting sugar beet, noting that this year, this figure has dropped by 40 percent.
