In January-October 2018, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan increased by 50 percent, Foreign Trade Ministry of Uzbekistan said in a statement.

The statement was made during the working visit of the Kyrgyz delegation headed by Economy Minister Oleg Pankratov to Uzbekistan.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the implementation of the intergovernmental agreements achieved between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan during the meetings of the presidents of the two countries in 2017. The sides also touched upon issues of promoting business contacts, identifying prospects for cooperation in trade, transport and industry.

“The heads of two states during the summit meetings set a task to increase bilateral trade to $500 million in the near future. The parties expressed firm confidence that the task will be completed at the scheduled time. There has been an active growth in bilateral trade this year. In January-October 2018, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan reached $325 million, which is 50 percent more compared to the same period last year,” the ministry said.

In turn, Pankratov stressed that the Kyrgyz side is interested in developing bilateral relations in the long term, and also praised the initiative of the Uzbek president to expand interregional cooperation between the countries, which contributes to establishing strong friendly and mutually beneficial contacts between the business sectors of the two countries.
