Kazakhstan’s Almaty region announces sugar beet growing plans

This year, beet growers of Kazakhstan’s Almaty region collected a record harvest – 440,000 tons of sugar beet, Governor of the region Amandyk Batalov said, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

"We managed to increase the sugar beet sowing area to 11,200 hectares this year. Today, the yield per hectare is 400 centners," Batalov said.

Farmers of Almaty region plan to significantly expand the area of sugar beet crops in the next four years.

"We plan to increase the sugar beet sowing area to 16,000 hectares by 2022," Batalov said.

It is worth noting that this year about 1.7 billion tenge were allocated from the regional budget to create new service and procurement centers and purchase sugar beet seeds of foreign production.

Last year, the harvest of sugar beet in Almaty region totaled 334,000 tons.
