Although the currency rate in Iran has dropped in recent weeks, commodity prices haven't changed that much, Mohammad Agha Taher, chairman of Iranian Grocers' Union told Trend.
He says the Iranian people expect prices to fall, the market continues to resist.
Taher said in case with some commodities, the prices not only have not come down, but they have gone up.
Referring to the fluctuations of the currency rate in recent months, he said that when the currency rate rose by 1 rial, prices rose sharply, but at the moment of reducing rates, nothing changes.
"In the current situation, people are convinced that the fall in the currency rate is temporary,” he said.
"Of course, the government controls the basic goods so nobody can tell anyone to sell these products at irrelevant price," he noted.
According to Taher, the prices increased due to smuggling of some food items, which weren't monitored by the government.
He referred to the market deficiencies and emphasized that due to problems created by the process of production of liquid and solid food oil, the amount of production is not equal to the market demands.
