Use of funds, construction and installation work under loan projects of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Uzbekistan are ahead of schedule, the organization told Trend.

JICA noted that all its projects in Uzbekistan are ongoing in accordance with the approved schedules.

“[In 2019], JICA plans to continue implementing projects according to priorities in the country in energy, transportation, agriculture and healthcare. Some projects will be completed, whereas others will approach their final stages,” the agency noted.

Cooperation in exchange of experience, advanced training and education is also in full swing, according to JICA.

In the first nine months of 2018, 27 citizens of Uzbekistan were sent for training to Japan.

“Fifteen young specialists received scholarships to study for master's degrees at leading universities in Japan. Seven new volunteers were sent to Uzbekistan. Today, 19 JICA volunteers are working in various fields in Uzbekistan,” JICA concluded.

JICA earlier told Trend that construction of modern combined-cycle gas turbines is one of the main elements of its strategy in the energy sector of Uzbekistan.

According to a JICA representative, the agency’s strategy is based on an integrated approach, where various assistance tools, such as loans, technical assistance, gratuitous assistance, training and staff development, complement and enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
