During the first eight months of this Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), Iran’s non-oil exports exceeded $31.5 billion, rising 13 percent.

“Iran’s non-oil exports were worth $31.5 billion, while Iran imported $29 billion, so trade balance showed a surplus of $2 billion,” said Mohammadreza Modoudi, acting head of the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPO), Trend reports citing IRIB.

“The largest volume of our exports is in petrochemicals, gas condensate and other industrial, consumer and agricultural goods,” he said. “There was a 37 percent rise in petrochemical exports and other goods had a 17.5 percent growth.”

“In the 8 months of this year, our exports to Iraq grew by more than 66.5 percent, to China more than 17.5 percent, to the UAE more than 26 percent, and to Afghanistan 25 percent,” he said.

Iran’s exports to India decreased by 10 percent during the period, he added.

“Our exports were 75 million tons and imports were about 21 million tons,” Modoudi added.

“Iran has had a 2,000 percent growth in exports during past 20 years,” said Modoudi. “But we have not yet been able to create many infrastructures, including large corporations and competitive products on international arena.”

Modoudi indicated the necessity to modernize technologies to increase exports.
