The Turkmen Ministry of Industry has announced an investment tender for construction of a cement plant with capacity of 1 million tons per year in the Lebap region, Trend reports citing the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

With the commissioning of the new plant, a strategically important step will be taken to develop the export-oriented segment of the economy - the building materials industry - in the eastern region of the country, which has a unique raw material base, the report said.

There is already one cement plant operating in the region, and this plant has completed the annual task ahead of schedule, having produced more than 1 million tons of construction material in demand.

The plant produces the most popular cement grades: high-strength Portland cement, grouting cement used in the oil and gas industry, as well as sulphate-resistant cement used in hydraulic structures.

Raw materials - limestone, clay, gypsum and quartz sand - are extracted in quarries located near the plant. The company’s products are in high demand in the country and in neighboring markets. This year, almost 250,000 tons of local cement was shipped to Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
