In the current Iranian year (started March 21) Iran's textile production increased by 2 percent, while the exports grew by 40 percent, the head of the Textile and Clothing Industries Office of Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade Afsana Mehrabi said, Trend reports via IRNA.

She said that 7,900 textile factories of the country employ 260,000 people.

Textile industry has saved many countries in difficult times, she noted, adding that thanks to being highly profitable and employment potential, this industry may help with social problems during the hard times.

In order to deal with the problems that Iran's textile industry is facing, there are plans to prepare necessary bills by cooperation of five parliamentary committees.

Taking into account that imports of certain goods are banned, some local textile producers are benefiting from the current situation, Mehrabi said.

Despite difficulties, the production and exports of the country have increased, she added.

In accordance with certain agreements, 210 trillion rials (roughly $5 billion) will be allocated for the supplies of raw materials, Mehrabi noted.

Presently, in Iran, there are bans on end products worth $1.1 billion and leather products worth $100 million, according to Mehrabi.
