By Huseyn Valiyev – Trend:

An increase in the production of construction materials is expected in Azerbaijan in 2019, the Azerbaijani construction company Akkord told Trend.

The company said the forecast is based on the contracts concluded last year for implementation of major infrastructure projects.

“A number of projects are already being implemented and some are still to be carried out,” the company noted. “In total, several hundred millions of US dollars will be invested in their implementation. Loans for the projects were allocated by such major financial institutions as the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.”

The funds will be directed mainly to development of road infrastructure, water and sewerage systems, added Akkord.

“All of the abovementioned suggests the construction materials market will grow this year, just like last year,” the company said. “Of course, everything will depend on oil prices. If growth continues, this will have a positive effect on the production of construction materials. In particular, we expect a growth in the production of pipes, concrete, etc.”

In January-November last year, 3,218.500 tons of cement was produced in Azerbaijan, which is 21.1 percent more than in the same period of 2017. During the period, 1,312.700 tons of concrete mix was produced (a 90.9 percent growth). A two-fold growth was observed in the production of asphalt (270,700 tons).

“The production capacity of the construction materials industry doesn’t only cover the domestic needs in Azerbaijan, but also ensures exports,” Akkord said. “Georgia and Kazakhstan mainly import Azerbaijani construction materials.”
