Iran's exports through Astara port grow by 85%

Until the end of the ninth month of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), 95,000 tons of goods were exported by 77 ships from Iran's Astara port, which is 85 percent more compared to the same period of the previous year, Kianoush Amiri, the head Iran’s Astara county Ports and Maritime Organization, said, Trend reports via IRNA.

In the reported period, 77 ships were unloaded and 77 uploaded at Astara port, Amiri said.

During the nine months 95,000 tons of goods were exported, while imports only amounted to 49,775 tons, he noted.

Compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year, the number of the ships entering Astata port increased by 4 percent, Amiri said, adding that uploading-unloading also increased by 2 percent.

Various types of wood, medium-density fibreboard, calcium carbonate, cement, tiles and ceramic, construction gypsum, iron ingots, polyethylene, granite were the main products of imports and exports at the port.

Astara's proximity to Central Asia is one its advantages, Amiri said.

He further added that the creation of Azerbaijan-Iran joint free trade zone with investments from the private sector will contribute to the economic growth of the two countries.
