Azerbaijan significantly increases trade with Italy

The commodity turnover of Azerbaijan with its five main trading partners reached $14.95 billion and amounted to 48.35 percent of the country's total trade in January-December 2018, Trend reports referring to the State Customs Committee (SCC).

Italy retained the status of the largest trade partner of Azerbaijan by the year’s end with a commodity turnover of $6.2 billion and a share of 20.11 percent. Turkey is on the second spot with $3.4 billion (11 percent), Russia is following with $2.55 billion (8.25 percent), Germany with $1.44 billion (4.66 percent) and Israel’s turnover was $1.33 billion (4.32 percent).

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan purchased most of the products from Russia ($1.9 billion or 16.44 percent), followed by Turkey ($1.6 billion or 13.75 percent), China $1.2 billion or 10.44 percent), Germany ($660 million or 5.76 percent) and Switzerland ($513 million or 4.47 percent). The share of these countries in total imports of Azerbaijan is almost 51 percent.

Italy retains it status of the main consumer of Azerbaijani product, it accounted for $5.88 billion (30.22 percent) of total exports. The next is Turkey with $1.82 billion (9.38 percent), Israel with $1.3 billion (6.74 percent), the Czech Republic with $938.38 million (4.82 percent) and India with $819.5 million (4.21 percent). Overall, the share of these countries in total exports of Azerbaijan is 55.4 percent.

In general, foreign trade operations of Azerbaijan reached $30.92 billion in 2018 exceeding the previous year almost by 36.9 percent.

Moreover, the surplus for the reporting period was $7.99 billion which is 58.85 percent more than in 2017 ($5.03 billion).
