Railway helps in developing trade ports and increase competitiveness in Iran, said Mohammad Rastad, Executive Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran, during his visit to the port facilities.

He noted that one of the main requirements of trade ports is the availability of convenient transportation systems, as the development of transport helps facilitate the improvement of port conditions.

“Providing the Boushehr port with a railway is of great importance,” Rastad added.

“Just as we are aiming to deepen the berthing zones of our ports, it is necessary to carry out work on land as well. We will fully benefit from diversified transportation opportunities by laying a railway to the Boushehr port, and the conditions of the Bushehr port will improve overall”, the official said.

Siavash Arjomandzadeh, Director General of Ports and Maritime Organization of Boushehr Province, said that due to its close proximity to the city, work on the expansion of the Boushehr port is being done in the Negin Island Port. Investment opportunities are taken into account for this purpose.

“The current capacity of the Boushehr port stands at 7 million tons. This will reach 8 million tons, thanks to the progress made in the Negin Island Port,” Arjomandzadeh added.

Boushehr port currently ranks second among Iranian ports in terms of container loading and unloading.
