Over 2,500 tons of shrimp produced in Iran’s Golestan province

Construction of the second phase of the Gomishan shrimp breeding farm in Iran’s Golestan province has recently started, said Javad Qods Allavi, director general of Golestan Fisheries Department, Trend reports via ISNA.

With the launch of the second phase, this facility will become the biggest shrimp breeding farm in Iran, he said.

He said that the area of ​​the first phase of the Gomishan shrimp breeding farm is 4,000 hectares. This Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), more than 2,500 tons of shrimp were harvested from this area, he noted.

He added that with the commissioning of 10,000 hectares of land in the Gomishan shrimp breeding farm, 8,625 people will be employed.

He said that 24,400 tons of shrimp will be annually harvested at this facility and 85 percent will be exported.

“As part of the Iranian president’s visit to the Golestan province, construction of the first phase of the Gomishan sturgeon breeding plant started at 220 hectares of the territory with the participation of the Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran,” he said. “With the commissioning of this facility, 4,800 people will be employed.”

He noted that 8,000 tons of fish and 400 tons of caviar will be annually produced at this facility, adding that the main part will be exported.
