The third airport of Istanbul, the construction of which was completed Oct. 29, 2018, will contribute to increasing tourist flow to Turkey, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend Jan. 23.

The ministry noted that the increase in the number of domestic flights will also contribute to domestic tourism's growth in Turkey.

“The third airport of Istanbul is designed to annually serve 200 million passengers,” the ministry said.

The process of dismantling and transferring equipment from Istanbul's Ataturk Airport to the new airport will begin March 1 and end March 3.

Earlier, the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry of Turkey told Trend that the new airport in Istanbul served 95,300 passengers until the end of December 2018.

The figure included 65,100 passengers in domestic flights and 30,200 passengers in international flights.

The ministry reported that 718 flights, including 487 domestic flights and 231 international flights took place in the period.

The new airport was opened on Oct. 29, 2018 near the Lake Terkos in northern Istanbul.
