Uzbekistan reduces cotton exports for 2.4 times in 2018

The country is proceeding at the planned rate: it reduces cotton exports and increases the supply of finished textile products abroad, Trend reports via Sputnik.

The State Statistics Committee noted that compared with 2017, Uzbekistan reduced the export of cotton fiber by 2.4 times to 115,600 tons in 2018.

"In January-December 2018, 115,600 tons of cotton fiber were exported in the amount of $222.1 million. Whereas, 278,900 tons of cotton were sent to other countries in 2017 which means the decline in 2.4 times," the report says.

The share of cotton fiber in total export of the country decreased from 3.8 percent to 1.6 percent. For comparison, the share of cotton in total export in 2015 was 5.9 percent or 503,800 tons, in 2016 was 4.7 percent or 416,000 tons.

In particular, the export of cotton to Iran fell to 57,900 tons, China to 37,900 tons and Bangladesh to 9,100 tons during this period. In its turn, Russia shipped, 1,600 tons in 2018 which were 178,000 tons less than in 2000.

Exports of last year’s textile products increased 1.4 times and amounted to $1.603 billion which is 11.2 percent of country’s total export. In the structure of textile deliveries the main share is cotton yarn with 45.3 percent and finished knitwear and garments with 36.5 percent.

Russia still holds the leadership on the list of export market for Uzbek products in 2018 with 40 percent of total supplies or $ 639.6 million which is 25 percent more than the same period last year.
