By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

The North Kazakhstan Region intends to further increase the sown area for oilseeds this year, Trend reports referring to the Kazakh media.

The press service of the region’s governor informed that last year, as a result of diversification, the sown area for oilseeds amounted to 1 million hectares.

"We are on the right track. The results of the year show that farmers' incomes have increased, products are in demand and export-oriented," Governor of the Region Kumar Aksakalov said.

At a recent expanded meeting of the government, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that systemic measures are being taken in the agro-industrial sector and there are certain results: in particular, North Kazakhstan has become a leader in the cultivation of oilseeds.

"The sown area for oilseeds in the North Kazakhstan Region has doubled to almost a million hectares, which is 40 percent of the total sown areas for oilseeds in the country," Nazarbayev said.
