Production of cars in Kazakhstan has soared by almost 80 percent, Trend reports with reference to Energyprom.kz.

Last year, the Kazakh automotive industry produced 30,000 cars, which is 78.8 percent more than in 2017. The main production is concentrated in the East Kazakhstan region (60.8 percent): 18,300 cars, 59.9 percent more year-on-year.

One of the country's two major automakers, Asia Auto, is working there. The company plans to raise production to 30,000 cars by the end of 2019.

The Kostanay region accounts for another 39.2 percent of the production of passenger cars in Kazakhstan: 11,800 cars, an increase of 2.2 times year-on-year. The second major automaker SaryarkaAvtoProm works there.

It should be noted that in the first 11 months of 2018, the Kazakh automotive industry met 52.4 percent of the domestic demand. Imports, in contrast, fell by 3.3 percent.

According to the results of 2018, Lada heads the ranking of the most popular brands in Kazakhstan, followed by Toyota, Hyundai, KIA and GAZ. Five most popular brands of passenger cars of Kazakh assembly include Lada, Hyundai, KIA, JAC and Chevrolet.

Last year, residents of Almaty, Astana, Atyrau, Shymkent and Karaganda showed the greatest activity in buying of cars.

It should also be noted that last year Kazakhs handed over 27,200 vehicles for recycling.
