Nomads of Iran's West Azerbaijan Province supply meat, daily products, carpets to local markets

There are 1,8 million sheep and goats owned by nomads in Iran’s northwestern West Azerbaijan Province, Bahram Zeinalzadeh, General Director of Nomadic Affairs Center of West Azerbaijan Province of Iran, told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Zeinalzadeh, the nomads of West Azerbaijan produce more than 15,000 tons of red meat, livestock products, milk, strained yogurt and oil, adding that about 16,000 square meters of carpets (annually), 50,000 tons of milk, 19,000 pairs of caps, scarfs, gloves, socks, etc., along with 3,000 tons of wool, are also produced and brought to the market by the nomads.

Zeinalzadeh stated that there are 2.6 million hectares of pasture land in the West Azerbaijan, with 1.6 million hectares of it belonging to the nomads. About 104,000 nomads, consisting of 16,000 families, live in all 17 counties of the province.

"The nomads of the province set more than 2,000 tents in the summer pastures," he said.

There are12 nomadic clans and 21 independent tribes residing in the West Azerbaijan Province of Iran.
