By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

In the coming Iranian year (starting March 21, 2019), the production of chicken eggs in Iran will exceed 1 million tons, said Morteza Rezaei, Deputy Minister for livestock production affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, Trend reports referring to Fars News Agency.

According to Rezaei, over 900,000 tons of chicken eggs are currently being produced in Iran, adding that the right conditions are in place for Iran to export eggs.

Saying that about 160,000 tons of chicken were being manufactured in Iran before the Islamic Revolution, Rezaei noted that today 2.7 million tons of cereals are being produced annually.

The deputy minister also said that dairy products such as cheese were being imported in pre-revolution Iran, whereas currently more than 10 million tons of dairy products are being domestically produced.

"Last year, Iran exported 900,000 tons of dairy products," he said.

Rezaei further stated that the value of Iran's livestock products stands at 1 trillion rials (app. $23.8 billion).

"The export of livestock products should be executed in such a way that it does not lead to a major change in the price of products across the country," he said.

The deputy minister added that the current economic period is one of a transitional nature, and that stability is bound to form.

"Iran's livestock sector must aim for seizing new export markets," he said.
