By Fakhri Vakilov - Trend:

This year Uzbekistan will be able to avoid a shortage of water for irrigating grain, Trend reports with reference to the presidential press service.

The news was revealed during the meeting on the cultivation and accumulation of grain crops held by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

"As known, despite the abnormally hot and dry weather, especially low water in the southern regions, thanks to the selfless efforts of our peasants, we managed to get an average of 45 centners of yield per hectare and grow a total of over 5.2 million tons in 2018", - the press service of the head of state noted.

This year rainfall is twice as much as last year and 1.3 times more than in previous years. At present, there are 1 billion cubic meters of water in the Talimarjan reservoir, and in Chimkurgan, Pachkamarsky and other reservoirs - 2-3 times more water than last year.

"The Sardobinsky reservoir was commissioned. This means that we can get much more grain harvest in the country than last year," the press service stressed.

The purchase price of one ton of wheat was set at 1.2 million soums, or 1.6 times more than last year in 2019. A mechanism has been introduced to stimulate farmers who have a high yield, which provides for the use of a surcharge to the state procurement price of 25 percent, which is, up to 300,000 soums for each ton of grain.
