By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

Kazakhstan's medicine manufacturers produced 27,400 tons of medicines in 2018, which is a year-on-year decrease of 14 percent, Trend reports via Energyprom.kz.

At the same time, the production of other pharmaceuticals remained almost unchanged (0.3 percent up) and amounted to 259.2 tons.

However, in January this year, production of medicines increased by as many as 4.4 times compared to January 2018, up to 5,500 tons, and production of other pharmaceuticals – from 14.2 tons to almost 322 tons.

Some 34.8 percent of January 2019 output was produced in Shymkent, 31 percent – in the Almaty region and 22.7 percent – in Almaty city.

İt should be noted that Kazakh medicine producers are very far from meeting the domestic demand. İn particular, last year local production met the demand for vitamin preparations by only 0.9 percent, for vital antibiotics — by 17.9 percent, and for other medicines —by 51.4 percent.

The largest rise in prices for pharmaceuticals in January 2019 was recorded for gastric medicines and analgesics: 15.3 percent up year-on-year. At the same time, prices for other medicines increased by less than 10 percent.
