By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The medicines produced in Iran mainly meet the country's needs through minimum currency worth about $600-700 million, Mehdi Pirsalehi, chairman of the Iranian Food and Drug Administration, said.

This Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018) was one of the most difficult years for the Iranian pharmaceutical industry, Pirsalehi added, Trend reports referring to IRNA.

Despite all the problems, the shortage of local medicines was minimal, he said.

Iranian pharmaceutical companies have not ceased their activity despite sanctions, he added.

Pirsalehi said if Iran does not strengthen the local pharmaceutical industry, it will face problems due to the sanctions.

Next Iranian year may be a hard year for the pharmaceutical industry. However, the local potential can save Iran from these problems, he said.

The US has imposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018.
