Turkmen economic society Ferhar has begun to harvest the first crop of bananas, Trend reports referring to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
"The plant, which is exotic for Turkmenistan, has taken root well in the favorable conditions created for it and bore fruit," the union said.
Daily, 40-45 kilograms of bananas are harvested from one tree. It was earlier reported that the planned total output would be in the amount of 30-40 tons.
A greenhouse with a height of 8.6 meters was built on an area of one hectare in the Sakarchagin district of Turkmenistan's Mary province. Saplings were imported from Turkey.
