By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The potential of Iran's flour processing plants is very high and imports of wheat bring additional income to the country at the same time, an official of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran told Fars News Agency, Trend reports.

According to the official, the imported wheat is brought temporarily and flour products are being prepared.

Last year, the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad signed a contract with Russia for the import of 1 million tons of wheat, so as to use the full potential of Iran's flour processing plants.

"After being processed at 15 flour plants, the imported wheat is exported to countries of South-East Asia and China," he said.

Over the past days, the movement of an Iranian cargo carrier with about 4,900 tons of wheat was impeded at the Volga River. This has caused some Iranians to wonder as to why wheat is being imported to Iran, when there is no need for that.
