By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

Kazakh Prime Minister Askar Mamin held a meeting in Astana with Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Mammetkhan Chakyyev, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the Kazakh prime minister March 12.

At the meeting, the sides discussed issues of expanding trade, economic and cross-border cooperation using transit-transport potential of the two countries.

The project to create a special border trade zone on the border of the Mangystau province of Kazakhstan and the Balkan province of Turkmenistan remains a priority.

The focus is made on enhancing the work of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation.

“It is necessary to gradually increase the volumes of mutual trade, using tools to stimulate mutually beneficial export supplies between the two countries and expand the range of supplied goods,” the prime minister of Kazakhstan said.

At the same time, the sides noted the necessity of increasing the turnover of goods in such industries as metallurgy, mechanical engineering, construction materials, food, chemical products, light industry and pharmaceuticals.

It was earlier reported that Turkmenistan is working on the construction of the Turkmenbashi-Garabogaz-Kazakh border road. It is expected that this section will become continuation of the high-speed multimodal highway Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi.
